Playing Portal and Half Life 2 (I got the Orange Box) turns out to be pretty detrimental to everything else. My new server is half set up, this site is still empty, and I’m busy escaping City 17.
I’ll add a third game to that list: keeping the other games running well in wine. This game is more challenging than the others, but a lot less fun. Portal is the main problem. It worked perfectly the first time I ran it, and I played through almost to the end. Then it crashed and wouldn’t run again, so I updated wine to the latest. Now it runs, but performance is much worse, and some transparent textures are solid black. A particularly bad effect of this is to turn the whole screen solid black when I get shot, which makes it really hard to react in a way that ends in me surviving.
Luckily (I think) Half Life 2 still works great, so I guess I’ll just have to keep playing that…
